Dad knows what's up. That's for sure.

You know that moment when you have 4 minutes before sacrament meeting starts and you realize...you're supposed to be speaking in church? Well, I know that moment. I kinda felt it just earlier today. It was 12:56 and I realized that I was supposed to be speaking. (Not only that, I was supposed to speak at the nursing home this morning but I missed it because I was at BYC...and because I forgot.)

I turned to my dad and I said, "Dad. I'm supposed to speak today." And, he looked at the program and said, "Yes. Yes you are."

I freaked out. My dad was telling me that I should go up there and speak even though I had nothing prepared. I was just dying. In my head, I was thinking, "DAD, TAKE ME HOME! I FEEL SICK!" Well...I was still so nervous. Then, my dad said, "You've been preparing for this for 17 years." After that, I just thought...Well, duh! Of course I've been preparing for this! I don't need to worry! I know my stuff!

So, I went up there and told my bishop that I was sorry that I forgot to go to the nursing home in the morning and that I was just going to wing it. I went and sat on the stand and wrote my talk. How lucky blessed am I that my scriptures are chock-full of quotes and stuff bookmarking scriptures that go along with those quotes? How lucky blessed am I that my parents have always taught me the best stuff and helped me to understand key principles? So blessed.

My talk ended up not being so tragic. It worked out just fine. I actually felt pretty good about it. Maybe impromptu speaking is my thing. Maybe not..

My dad knows what's up. Of course I'm prepared! I've known all of this my whole life! What a good point. I've been preparing for this for 17 years. I should know this stuff well enough that if anybody ever asks me anything about what I believe, I can just tell them! No need to be nervous.

Thanks, Dad, for helping me to realize this! :)

Happy Sabbath, friends!
